Malum Caedo vs Nyra Veyrath
Last checked against official sources: 2026-09-27. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 releases 2026-10-14.
Boltgun 2 lets you play as one of two heroes. You pick one for the whole campaign, and each gets their own weapons and some unique levels. Loadouts below are from the May 2026 demo.
| Malum Caedo | Nyra Veyrath | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Ultramarine Sternguard Veteran (returning hero from Boltgun 1) | Sister of Battle (Adepta Sororitas), new in Boltgun 2 |
| Guns (demo) | Boltgun, Shotgun, Plasma rifle | Bolt pistol, Crossbow, Flamethrower |
| Melee | Chainsword | Power sword (per TheSixthAxis) |
| Moves | Obliterating Charge (dash forward); Frag grenade; Health regeneration | Charging/sliding move; Grenade |
| How it plays | Aggressive, close-to-mid range. Charge in, chainsword, keep moving. | Fewer bullets per shot but heavy hits: the crossbow one-shots many foes if you hold before firing; the flamethrower clears crowds and leaves fire on the ground. |
Shared weapon
In the demo, the Heavy Bolter was the only weapon both characters used (DualShockers); TheSixthAxis notes it is handed to you in the ice-level finale.
Good to know
- You pick one character per playthrough; you cannot switch mid-campaign (TheSixthAxis).
- Each character has unique levels in the branching campaign (DualShockers, Steam).
- Weapon lists come from the May 2026 demo. The full game promises more weapons, so expect this table to grow at launch.
So which one?
Previewers found the two play more alike than expected: both have a heavy melee hit, a dash/slide and grenades. The real difference is the guns. Malum rewards staying in the enemy's face; Nyra rewards precise shots and burning crowds. Still torn? Take the 7-question quiz.
